workforce flexibility

The growing dominance of females in the workplace, particularly in the professional services ranks, is putting significant pressure on HR departments to make the workplace more flexible.  If you don’t think this is a big deal, I refer you to the firestorm of criticism unleashed on Marissa Mayer when she ended remote work at Yahoo (I happened to agree with her move by the way; you can’t fix a broken and under performing culture with a significant portion of the work force scattered hell to breakfast on any given day).

So what are we to do?  Sure, the Working Families Flexibility Act passed the House a couple of weeks ago, but the D’s in the Senate won’t hear it and the President promises to veto it if it passes.  I’ll be retired by the time the government gives us a hand.  Want some ideas?

Here’s a short piece  by Amy Levin-Epstein of CB S News on what applicants may be looking for in an employer.
